Curriculum

Intent

At Swillington Primary School, our mission is to provide a transformative cradle to career education that allows our children to enjoy lives of choice and opportunity.

Our flexible and exciting curriculum allows us to find the talent in all children. Our curriculum offers a broad range of opportunities to ensure that our children are:

  • Being tolerant
  • Respecting their environment
  • Imaging the possibilities
  • Keeping safe

Implementation

  • We are explicit in the way that behaviour routines are taught. We believe that strong behaviour management systems underpin all learning.
  • Our drivers are at the heart of everything that we teach so that we can nurture well-rounded individuals with a wider understanding of the world that they live in.
  • We use White Rose Maths to support our teaching and learning of mathematics. We use Talk 4 Writing to support our teaching and learning of writing.
  • All lessons are planned with hooks and real life, practical learning so that the children can see what is in it for them.
  • We immerse our children in high-level, subject specific vocabulary so that they develop a rich vocabulary and become confident, literal individuals.
  • We explicitly teach the skills of a geographer, scientist, historian and artist so that children can identify their own talent and imagine the possibilities for themselves as individuals.
  • Our curriculum is organised coherently so that children can build on previous learning.

Impact

Children will know more, remember more and be able to articulate this clearly. Their learning opportunities will allow them to understand the world that they live in more clearly. They will be tolerant, respect their environment, keep safe and imagine the possibilities.
