The School Day From September 2023

School doors open at 8.40am

All pupils will be in school for 8.45am

If your child/children are in Foundation 1 or 2, you will be able to walk around school for drop off and collection. Please ensure you are following the one way system during these times. We kindly ask that parents do not enter the building.

Parents who wish their child to attend Nursery (F1) at our school can choose from two and a half days at the beginning or end of the week.

Time spent on teaching each day, excluding registration periods, assemblies and break times, is 4 hours 15 minutes in Key Stage 1 and 4 hours 40 minutes in Key Stage 2.  This is in line with statutory requirements.

The total weekly provision amounts to 32.5 hours.

Children should arrive in the playground no earlier than 5 or 10 minutes before the bell is rung as there is no supervision before this time.

Children are electronically registered by their teacher promptly when they enter the classroom. It is important that teachers settle their classes quickly, without interruption at the beginning of the day.  Any urgent matter which needs to be brought to the attention of the teacher should be reported to the school office.  Otherwise an appointment may be made to see the teacher after school.

If a child arrives late s/he should go, or be taken, to the Office so that they can ensure the child is registered.

Breakfast and after-school clubs

We have Breakfast and After School Clubs, which are held on 5 days per week and is run by our support staff. This is made possible through a combination of subsidy from the school budget, fund-raising and a small charge.

Breakfast Club

When: Monday to Friday

Time: 7.30am – 8.40am

Price: £2.50 per child

Run by the school team, the Breakfast Club is made possible through a combination of subsidy from the school budget, fund-raising and a small charge per child. The Breakfast Club enables us to provide children with a healthy breakfast and the opportunity to play and develop social skills.

After-school Childcare

When: Monday to Friday

Time: 3.15pm – 5.30pm

Price: £3.00 per hour, per child (includes drink and healthy snack).

Children will be able to play games, puzzles, jigsaws, etc or catch up on homework. Perfect if you cannot get up to school for 3.15pm or if you have another child in an extra-curriculum activity after school and want to pick them all up at the same time!

Extra-Curricular Activities

Enrichment Tuesday 1.30-3.00pm

All pupils are able to choose the activity that they want to explore further. Pupils are able to change their enrichment activity each half term.

On a Tuesday afternoon, we offer a range of enrichment activities:

  • Exploring Culture
  • Sporting skills
  • Clay modelling
  • Painting
  • Performing arts
  • Music
  • Habitat building
  • Sewing
  • Cooking

After School Clubs

We have a wide range of after-school clubs. The clubs will start after school and finish at 4.15pm.

We are fundraising for new lunchtime play equipment, so we will be charging £1 per week for every child attending a club. We also offer funded spaces.

Please contact the office if you would like your child to join any of the after-school clubs.

Leadership

School Meals & Milk

Children may either eat a dinner provided by Catering Services which conforms to recommended nutritional standards, or they may bring a packed lunch. Children will be offered water or fruit juice to drink. For special diets and vegetarian meals please make enquiries at the school.

Children in Snow Leopard Class and Northern Hemisphere are entitled to a free school meal every day.

Whether they have a school dinner or a packed lunch, we encourage children to eat all their food as we are working hard to prevent waste and teach children about the importance of sustainability (not to mention the importance of a healthy diet!). You can view Swillington Primary’s School Food policy on the Policies and Procedures page.
